My name is Linda. I began volunteering with Advice Portsmouth many years ago when my daughter recruited me whilst working for You Trust.

I had just retired from fulltime work but wasn’t ready to give up the routines. I felt the skills I’d acquired working in banking for 35 plus years would still have a use.

Fill in the gaps

I do believe that there is a major gap in our education system. Because no one is ever taught how to manage money and deal with budgeting. I am lucky to have learned this in my work. Now I use what I’ve learned to assist with obtaining Debt Relief Orders for clients in financial chaos. I really enjoy feeling like part of a team with a shared goal.

I am still learning new things too, which keeps my brain active and alert. I get a great deal out of the experience. I feel my volunteering gives me a strong sense of purpose, maintains social contacts and gives me a sense of achievement which supports my self-respect. I’d thoroughly recommend it.
